Gerald and I have been looking forward to photographing Lauren & Ben’s Alabama wedding for over a year. Not only have I known Lauren and her family since she was 6 years old (wow, it makes me feel old to admit that!), but Lauren is a fellow artist and all of the wedding/photo inspiration emails that have passed back and forth between us over the last year made us practically giddy to photograph her wedding!
Ben & Lauren first met back in the 9th grade, but it wasn’t until the summer between high school and college that Ben’s persistence and good timing paid off and their love began to blossom. Lauren went away to college in Florence, but quickly returned home when she decided to pursue love and art in Huntsville.
Lauren completely designed and styled her entire lemon yellow and soft gray wedding, and with help from her mom, Ben and lots of family friends, she created every single detail you see by hand. A few of my favorite details included a typewriter and note cards as the guestbook, old fashioned yard games with hand painted signs, lemons (everywhere), the guys’ converse shoes, the friends & family potluck-style dessert buffet, and the candy bar filled with everyone’s favorite yellow candies. Countless hours, and lots of love went into their DIY wedding, and we are so excited to share it with you here!

Stay tuned for Part 2 of Lauren & Ben’s wedding, which will hit the blog tomorrow!
